Our Story
Tropic Waters, Inc. began in 1974 with a modest 960 square foot shop. Three years later, Jim Reiman relocated to Eau Claire to run the store. Tropical fish and the supplies they need formed the original core of the business. In 1979, an additional 540 square feet allowed us to welcome parakeets, reptiles and other small animals. As customer needs grew, so did the store, and we brought in many popular brands of pet food. In 1997, Jim bought the business he had managed for 23 years and shaped Tropic Waters Pet Center into a full-line pet store offering both products and livestock. Growth continued in response to customer demand, and in 2007 we added Bark Avenue Salon, our pet grooming service. The biggest change came in 2008, when we outgrew the E. Clairemont location and moved to Hamilton Ave, expanding to more than 11,000 square feet. Throughout its history, Tropic Waters has been proudly locally owned and operated.
Meet Our Store Pets
Torq: Torq, an English Cream Golden Retriever, joined us in June 2014. His charming looks and wonderful temperament won our hearts, and he never left. He enjoys the company of other dogs, big sloppy dog kisses and belly rubs! Buddy: Buddy came to us as a surrender in February of 2011 and has improved greatly in health since arriving. He had numerous skin and mouth infections, was underweight and had mangled toes. Attentive care and patient force feeding helped him turn the corner. Buddy may never be quite like a typical iguana, but we love having him here! Cinder: Cinder believes she is a princess and expects everyone to treat her that way. The last of a litter of kittens born in the store, she seemed like the perfect fit, so she stayed too! She is far more secretive about where she hides than Buttons. Romeo: Romeo is our resident old man. If what we were told when we got him is accurate, he is now over 100 years old. He no longer climbs around his cage or flies, but he can still say a few phrases and loves a good neck rub. He is a yellow-capped Amazon.
